‘Hiska’ coagulates latex rapidly to enhance rubber yields

KENINGAU: Hiska Padu Sdn Bhd (Hiska Padu), a wholly-owned Bumiputera company has introduced for the first time a liquid acid known as ‘Hiska’ which could be used by smallholders in the state to increase their rubber yields.

According to the chief executive officer of Hiska Padu, Mohd Hisham Kassim, “the product represents the latest discovery within the rubber industry circle and is safe to use and able to accelerate the coagulation of rubber latex within a short period.”

Mohd Hisham said this at a presentation cum demonstration of the product to about 100 rubber smallholders in the Interior on Wednesday.

The product helps to speed up the process of coagulation of the latex in three minutes when compared to using other ordinary liquid acids which could take three hours or more to do so.

Mohd Hisham said the product is safe and will not cause any injury and can make the frozen rubber content heavier.

Hiska has been designed to replace the conventional liquid acid (pure vinegar) makes frozen rubber more dense and heavier and will not damage the roots and the bark of the rubber trees.

“About RM1 million had been spent to research and develop the product which was introduced in early 2010 and has won the second place award at the Malaysia Technology Expo,” he said.

The headquarters of the company is in Temerloh, Pahang.

The present production capacity of the company is 20,000 five-litre bottles per month and the company has set its sight to increase the capacity to 180,000 five-litre bottles per month of the product in the future.

‘Hiska’ also assists to save costs and a bottle of the product may be applied up to 400 trees and adds weight to the latex by between eight to 25 per cent. It also adds more weight to the Dry Rubber Content (DRC).

The product has been used by Felcra in Pahang, Terengganu, Johor and Kelantan and Mohd Hisham urged rubber smallholders in Sabah to use the product for enhanced yields.
