Felcra Berhad spent RM900,000 to deepen rivers and build wave breakers to protect land belonging to participants including those in Matu, Sarawak.
Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Hasan Malek said poor planning was the main source of drainage problems in Matu and this had affected production.
He said this was because it also involved land belonging to those who did not participate in projects undertaken by Felcra Berhad.
The drainage upgrading projects were implemented under the flood rehabilitation programme.
"Felcra Berhad continues to take remedial measures using internal funds to give optimum benefit to participants," he said when replying to a question by Datuk Abdul Wahab Dolah (BN-Igan) at Dewan Rakyat here today. - Bernama
